Ann and Elliott’s Great Escape

So, it came to pass last April that Ann heard through the grapevine that a state park on Orcas Island, in the San Juan Islands of the Pacific northwest was in need of resident volunteers in August and September. To her utter astonishment, when she asked me if I thought this would be a good idea, I said yes.wildride

We are now enroute to our job, having flown from Georgia to Albuquerque, and on to Colorado by car. Tomorrow morning we will see Mesa Verde, and hope to sleep near Provo, Utah by nightfall.DSC_7551

    1. Hi, Kitty! The plane is fine (still some nav radio glitches, but that’s nothing new). We knew we would need a car for the two months at Orcas Isle, and some New Mexico friends very graciously have loaned us a station wagon to use. So the journey goes forward by car from here. We did fly from Eagle Neck to Albuquerque.

  1. Mesa Verde is one of my favorite parks but I’m not sure a day drive thru is enough. Depending on your route Craters of the Moon and southern Idaho is another interesting Park. It has ice caves formed of lava tubes.

    1. Hi, Greg, Craters of the Moon does sound like a good choice for a stop. I’m not sure we will have time. Must arrive on Orcas and be settled into a “sight-unseen” class C camper by August 1st. I’m hoping we will have a bit of extra time on the road back to New Mexico for exploring.
